Rise in Asian Tiger Shrimp

A drastic rise in the number of Asian tiger shrimp in the Gulf of Mexico and U.S. Atlantic is causing some concern.
Scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are attempting to determine what has caused this rise and what the potential effects will be.
NOAA scientists theorize that the nonnative tiger shrimp could have been introduced to the waters surrounding the U.S. from the ballast waters of ships or by escaping from aquaculture facilities.
