Today marks the 100th anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking, and people around the world are hosting services and moments of silence to honor its memory.
A cruise ship called the Balmoral left England’s shores today in order to retrace the Titanic’s fateful voyage. Many passengers aboard the cruise ship are relatives of those that died aboard the Titanic. A memorial service was held on the Balmoral on the very spot that the Titanic went down.
Although the Titanic has always been a popular topic, its anniversary has created an upsurge in documentaries, television shows, and new books discussing the ship’s unfortunate demise.
Over 1,500 people died when the luxury liner made its maiden journey from Southampton, England to New York and collided with an iceberg in the North Atlantic. It took less than three hours for the ship to sink.
