Rare Penguin Found in Antarctica
The Adelie penguin sighted on Sunday is referred to as "leucistic" because it lacks pigmentation.
Birds with the genetic defect are usually picked off by predators before they reach breeding age.
Australian Antarctic Division biologist Rhonda Wise is studying the breeding patterns of the species as part of an international program to monitor the ecosystem.
