If you went to this year’s CES show in Las Vegas to see exciting new cameras, you will have been disappointed by the meager booths presented by the three camera brands that actually showed up: Canon, Sony and Panasonic. But here’s the good news: Charging your camera gear just got a whole lot sexier! Enter the PWRBOARD.
As the name suggests, the device consists of a board featuring an array of holes that accept various kinds of charging modules—arranged in whatever configuration you desire. Each charger draws its power from the board and the number is limited only by the available space. There are two sizes planned, Mini (23cm x 35cm, 16.5” diagonally) and Classic (33cm x 50cm, 23” diagonally), with a custom size available to order.
According to the U.S. startup—also named PWRBOARD—more than 30 charging modules will be available at launch. These include chargers for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm, GoPro and DJI cameras, as well as other chargers for AA, AAA and V-mount batteries. The device also includes a couple of built-in USB-C and USB-A ports to charge additional gear. The PWRBOARD can be plugged into a wall outlet (110V or 220V) or used with a 12V/14V DC car power input.
For anyone who wants a tidy, cable-free solution to their charging woes, it all sounds very promising, but there is one caveat: The PWRBOARD relies on a successful crowdfunding campaign—due to begin in “early 2022.” If you want to get the “lowest price available during the launch,” you can reserve your “PWRBOARD FAN price” by depositing a dollar on the PWRBOARD website.
