PSA: Please Don’t Scuba Dive in a Hurricane
By Joseph Tepper, September 10, 2017 @ 07:02 PM (EST)

There are a lot of things you should do as a massive hurricane approaches—but scuba diving ain’t one of them.

A scuba diver trapped in rough waters off of Palm Beach, Florida during Hurricane Irma managed to survive thanks to the help of some intrepid witnesses.

The incident occurred on Sunday as the category 4 storm barreled into the Florida peninsula. Two Floridians left the shelter of their condos to rescue the diver, who was struggling to get out of the water in rough conditions. Even more amazingly, the entire incident was captured on video.

According to local authorities, the diver is in good condition after being transported to a shelter.

A better choice for scuba divers in the midst of these ongoing natural disasters: Donate to the Direct Relief fundraiser. Our sister site, Wetpixel, has generously pledged to match the first $5,000 in donations.
