The Peruvian Fisheries Minister recently denied claims that the death of the many dolphins washed up on Peruvian shorelines is due to explosives used for oil exploration. Officials have also ruled out viral or bacterial infection and instead claim that the deaths are due to natural causes.

The environmental group, Orca, disagrees with this statement, claiming to have tested 30 dolphins and finding damaged ears and organs. These injuries are consistent with decompression sickness that could have been caused by noise and pressure waves from explosions.
