Panasonic has announced the Lumix L10 premium point-and-shoot camera, launched to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Lumix. With its backside-illuminated Micro Four Thirds sensor and fixed Leica DC Vario-Summilux 24–75mm (equivalent) f/1.7–2.8 zoom lens, the camera is very reminiscent of the LX100 series of compacts, but where 2014’s LX100 offered 12.8 megapixels and 2018’s LX100 II boasted 17 megapixels, the new camera takes effective resolution up a notch further to 20.4 megapixels.

Weighing 1.12 pounds (508g), the camera features a metal exterior with a magnesium alloy front case, combined with a “signature saffiano leather-textured finish.” Unlike the fixed display of the LX100-series models, the L10 features a fully articulated rear monitor (1.84 million dots), while the OLED viewfinder is a 2.36-million-dot affair. The camera uses the much larger BLK-22 battery from Panasonic’s GH series, which promises significantly improved performance.

Crucially, autofocus has received a thoroughly modern update, with a hybrid phase detection system (779 focus points) working together with advanced subject tracking (eyes, faces, bodies, animals, vehicles, etc.). The camera can shoot up to 11fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30fps with the electronic shutter, while optical image stabilization ensures rock-steady capture. Like the LX100 II, the AF Macro mode allows you to get within 3cm (1.2 inches) of your subject for close-up shots.

On the video side, you can record 5.6K/60p and up to 4K/120p, mostly in 4:2:0 10-bit color, but there are 4:2:2 10-bit modes as well. The camera supports V-log, and custom look-up tables (LUTs) can be downloaded via the Lumix Lab app and applied directly in-camera to both photos and videos using Real Time LUT.

Black and silver versions of the Lumix L10 will be available from retailers such as Backscatter in June for $1,500, but if you want the Titanium Gold special edition, it will cost you $100 extra—plus you’ll likely be joining a long queue. With a 20.4MP (*3) resolution, it delivers rich texture, natural color, and refined tonal gradation. The 4/3 type back-illuminated (BSI) CMOS image sensor and latest image processing engine deliver higher image quality. Another stand out feature is that the L10 also incorporates a multi-aspect shooting capability. By utilizing a sensor larger than the lens image circle, it maintains a consistent angle of view across 4:3, 3:2, and 16:9 (*4) aspect ratios, providing greater compositional flexibility without altering framing.
