The Ocean Photographer of the Year 2020
The winners and finalists in Oceanographic Magazine’s annual Ocean Photographer of the Year awards have been announced. Canadian photographer (and DPG contributor) Nadia Aly was named Ocean Photographer of the Year for her awesome shot of aggregating mobula rays off Baja California Sur, Mexico. She also received the competition’s Collective Portfolio Award.
“The photograph is perfectly exposed, compellingly dramatic and deeply intriguing,” said judge Cristina Mittermeier. “I know from experience that this image was not easy to create. Nadia Aly’s acknowledgement as the Ocean Photographer of the Year is a testament not only to the sheer power and uniqueness of her imagery, but to her journey as a photographer as well.”
More than 3,000 images were submitted to six categories. The judges were Mittermeier, her partner Paul Nicklen, Shawn Heinrichs, Paul Hilton, Andy Mann, John Weller, and Luciano Candisani.
Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up.
