NYUPS April Meeting: Photographing Shipwrecks
By Joseph Tepper, April 11, 2015 @ 03:18 PM (EST)

The New York Underwater Photography Society will be meeting later this month to talk all things wreck photography. NYUPS is the area’s premier club for underwater photography, where members meet and mingle to share their images and learn a little bit.

This month’s meeting, held on April 20th, will feature a brief tutorial on how to capture compelling images of wrecks. Following, members and visitors will share their own images of wrecks to receive some helpful critiques from the crowd. Email your images to Joseph Tepper, at Joe@DivePhotoGuide.com.

All meetings are free to attend, and photographers of all levels are encouraged to come and even submit images. It’s a very supportive and fun environment for NYC-area underwater photographers. Here are the details:

What: NYUPS April Meeting (Photographing Wrecks)
When: April 20th, 7-9 PM
Where: Alpha Fusion Restaurant (365 W. 34th St., New York, NY)

For more information, consult the press release below or visit the NYUPS website. Not in NYC, make sure to check our Events Section for the happenings in your neck of the woods.

At NYUPS’ April meeting we’re going to get wrecked! Oh, and maybe have a drink or too as well.

The theme for April’s meeting is photographing wrecks: From purposely-sunk cars at Dutch Springs to WWII ship and plane wrecks in the Pacific, we love ‘em all. The meeting will start off with a brief presentation on tips and techniques for photographing wrecks both in local waters as well as tropical destinations. We’ll cover lighting challenges, compositional tools and creative tips.

After that we want to see your favorite wreck images and hear how you captured them! Since it’s an image sharing session, other NYUPS-ers will give praise and constructive criticism on how we can all improve our underwater wreck photography.

NOTE: The meeting is MONDAY, April 20th

Image Specifications
The ideal size of each landscape orientation image is 10” wide and 7.5” high for portrait images. All images should be 150 DPI, or pixels per inch, and .JPG files. If you would like to submit videos, please bring them to the meeting as Quicktime files on a flash drive. Please number your emails or use Dropbox.

In your email, on the subject line please type in caps “NYUPS IMAGES: WRECKS.” Please email all your images to Joe Tepper at Joe@DivePhotoGuide.com and CC Larry Cohen at larry@liquidimagesuw.com.

Date of Submission
The deadline for images is Friday, April 17th. You will receive a confirmation of the receipt of your images from Joe. If you don’t, please contact Larry.

Please note that you do not need to submit images to attend the meeting – feel free to just come and enjoy the images, share and learn a little about improving your photography techniques! We want to stress that our meetings are for photographers of all levels. It doesn't matter what camera you use or how long you've been shooting, NYUPS wants to share the joys of underwater imaging with everyone interested.

This month our meeting is back at Alpha Fusion. Our host Henry Yang is a NYUPS supporter and most of his restaurant will be set-aside for us. So join us for a great time having Asian food, drinks and looking at images.
