Newsweek has taken their cover shot to new depths.
At the end of last year, the United States’ second largest weekly magazine published its last print edition, favoring a digital edition for 2013 and beyond. Well, their first animated cover features a deep-sea submarine as shot by underwater photog Hugh Gentry.
In a recent interview, Hugh details what it was like shooting the cover image, which involves blending both video from a GoPro and Canon 5D Mk II. The ambient light only image was captured at 110 feet for an article on the future of deep-sea marine exploration.
About the experience Hugh explains, “ They wanted it to look as natural as possible. But, it was a nice sunny day and the water was super clear out there. We wanted to make it look like we were at the bottom of the sea.”
