On Wednesday, Kiwi freediver William Trubridge will attempt an unassisted freedive to 102 metres into a cavern in the Bahamas.
The 34-year-old is diving into the 200-meter-deep Dean’s Blue Hole, the location of his first world record in 2007, when he dove to 81 metres. He has broken his own record several times since and holds the current world record of 101 meters, which he set in 2010.
The Kiwi freediver, who can hold his breath for about seven-and-a-half minutes, says he doesn’t fear for his life because of the trust he has in the safety divers. And he’s trying not to feel the pressure created by the hype surrounding the dive. “There's already enough pressure at 100 metres,” he said.
