The first-ever California Cup Competition for freediving occurred last week, and kicked off with a bang: A new USA record set by Claire Paris.
Paris managed to swim 128 meters in a time of just more than three minutes, as part of the pool discipline of dynamic no-fins. The previous US Women’s record was 125 meters, held by Shell Eisenberg. Paris on her accomplishment:
“I am very happy and grateful for this accomplishment. It is a reflection of my connection with water and the ocean,” said Paris after setting the record. “I have dedicated my life to the study and conservation of the ocean and freediving makes me feel one with the water. My wish is to use this competitive freediving experience to promote safe, scientific freediving.”
Even better – for us underwater photo people – the entire swim was captured in stunning HD. So, if you want to play along at home, try to hold your breath for the length of the video. Actually, to make it more accurate: Hold your breath and hop on the treadmill.
