New restrictions have been put in place for all visitors wishing to swim with manatees (Trichechus manatus latirostris) at Three Sisters Springs in Florida this winter. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Service has set forth new guidelines which will prohibit visitors from swimming with the manatees if the water temperature drops below 62° F between November 15, 2017, and March 31, 2018.

The guidelines are specifically for in-water access to the Three Sisters Springs Unit of the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. Visitors will not be permitted to enter the springs until the temperature rises above 62° F for at least a 24 hour period. If you are planning a visit to the springs you can keep an eye on real-time water temperatures here.
