New Guide Explores 50 of Papua New Guinea’s Best Dives

Veteran underwater photojournalist and author Tim Rock takes divers into one of the Indo-Pacific’s great underwater destinations in his new book, The 50 Best Dives in Papua New Guinea: The Ultimate Guide to the Essential Sites — 2027 Edition.

Drawing on decades of diving, traveling and photographing Papua New Guinea, Rock selects 50 favorite sites spanning the country—from the reefs and wrecks of Port Moresby and legendary muck diving of Milne Bay to Tufi, Madang, Kimbe Bay, the Witu Islands, Kavieng and the remote Hermit Islands and Egum Atoll.

Readers encounter spectacular coral reefs, dramatic dropoffs, historic World War II wrecks and marine life ranging from pygmy seahorses and unusual macro creatures to manta rays, schooling fish, dogtooth tuna and sharks. The book also ventures ashore to explore PNG’s extraordinary landscapes and cultural diversity.

Illustrated with more than 200 photographs, the guide includes 50 essential dive sites, maps, travel advice, topside attractions, dive safety information and practical tips for visiting this remarkable destination.

The 50 Best Dives in Papua New Guinea is both a practical guide for planning a dive adventure and an armchair journey through one of the world’s richest and most remarkable marine environments. It is the sixth book in this 50 Best series. Others include The 50 Best Dives of Micronesia, Indonesia, Japan, Hawaii and South Africa & Mozambique.

It can be found on Amazon.com books and in Kindle format.
