Navy's Sonar Impact on the Rise

The Navy’s new draft environmental impact statement dramatically raises the estimate of the amount of times that whales, dolphins, and marine animals could be impacted by sonar testing.
They estimate that sonar testing could impact marine animals up to 2.8 million times a year from 2014 to 2018. Compare this to 2009-2013 when they estimated just 150,000 possible instances a year.
The Navy defends this enormous rise by explaining that the size of the area of testing has increased as has the amount of testing. They describe this as only a “worst-case” scenario.
