ADEX 2011 was the second show under the new ownership of Asian Diver, and like last year, it was a resounding success. Over 100 exhibitors were on display for the diving community. While it was an international gathering, there were not many that made the trip from the U.S., but DPG surely wasn’t going to miss Asia’s biggest diving event.
ADEX 2011 really brought the dive industry into the 21st Century with some interesting innovations. All the seminars - and they were quite good - were streamed live on the event webpage. There photo competition also had a twist -- the entries were judged live by a panel of underwater photographers.
Considering this year’s theme was turtles, Mr. Turtle, of course made the trip out. Joining him for DPG was Steve De Neef and Matt Weiss. Below are some images from our visit – including a video Mr. T’s visit.
The crowds lined up to get into ADEX 2011
The DPG booth was popping! Aey from Digitalay stopped by to say hi to Mr. T and I.
Opening ceremonies celebrated Asian heritage.
Mr. Turtle stopped by one of his favorite fleets - World Wide Dive and Sail's Siren fleet.
It was great to see all support for sharks in Asia. Anti shark finning was a big theme of the convention.
In fact, conservation was a big part of the show. This booth was pretending to sell mock panda meat - comparing eating tuna to eating pandas. Very creative and seemingly effective!
Backscatter's Berkley White received the "Best Speaker Award" for his photo technique presentations. Very much deserved. Well done, Berk.
Professional photographer and DPG contributor Aaron Wong was on hand to sign copies of his new book, "Water Colors." The book looks beautiful and there will be a comprehensive review on DPG soon.
Aaron was also a one of the judges that participated in the ADEX 2011 imaging competition. The panel also included DPG's Matt Weiss, Berkley White, Shawn Heinrichs and Scuba Diver Australasia's art director Ralph Haring. A very fun way to judge the competition. DPG's Steve De Neef took home third place in both the still and video categories.
That wraps our coverage of the ADEX 2011. Thanks to the whole ADEX team, Steve De Neef, Mr. T and everyone who stopped by the booth. See you next year.
