The Rare’s Solution Search has announced the top ten finalists of its conservation proposal competition for sustainable fisheries, and Indonesia’s Misool Eco Resort is among the top entries remaining.
The Raja Ampat resort started the Misool Baseftin Foundation and contributed an entry to maintain sustainable fishing practices in their small corner of Indonesia- “Defending the Heart of Marine Biodiversity: Community Stewardship of Raja Ampat’s Reefs.” The competition received more than 100 entries before being narrowed down by an elite group of judges from National Geographic, Blue Ocean Institute, and the United Nations.
Only ten remain, but only one will receive the $20,000 project grant to help put their plan into action. Congrats to our friends at Misool, and good luck in the final stage of public voting, which ends December 24. I know I will be heading over to the contest website and voting right away!
