News
For the last 4 years I have had the privilege to serve you, the underwater photography community, as Editor of DPG, a rewarding role that I have put my heart and soul into. This is why I am so proud to share this exciting news with you. Earlier this year I acquired DPG, and I have quietly, but diligently taken the reins as Publisher and CEO. Jason Heller, DPG’s founder, who has been my mentor, remains a major part of DPG, as the world’s best advisor. Though I’d love to sit back and reflect on how great the last four years have been, I am even more excited to share our exciting plans for 2012!
Two years ago we said goodbye to the original DPG Turtle logo, which coincided with a major redesign. In keeping with the DPG tradition of constant improvement, we will be going through another refresh soon. Keep an eye out for a brand new look and feel on the site in the coming few months. But more than just a facelift, we will be unveiling a number of new features:
Scuba Diver Through The Lens – DPG has partnered with Asia Geographic to present the world’s first truly international, underwater photography print magazine
Techniques Guide moves to the iPad – Our popular techniques guide gets its own app, so now you can take all that information anywhere you go.
Underwater Photo of the Day - The new DPG homepage will now feature an amazing new underwater image every day. There will be no better way to start your morning then checking out the day’s image, while sipping your coffee.
Diversified Content – DPG has a strong focus on underwater wildlife photography, but in 2012, we plan to also focus on fashion, commercial, conceptual and everything in between.
These are just some of the new things we are working on, and there is much more to come. I’d like to thank my right hand man, Associate Editor Joe Tepper, who has picked up a lot of the editorial duties, and keeps beasting away at providing almost daily news.
I am proud and happy to be the publisher of DPG. Thanks for all the positive feedback. It makes all the sleepless nights worth it. I look forward to your continued support and can’t wait to unveil the next phase of our evolution.
Lastly - A word from Jason Heller.
"DPG has been my "baby" since we launched in 2005. As passionate underwater photographers, we managed to turn our passion for underwater photography into a global media and travel business. It has facilitated so many friendships with like minded people across the globe - from underwater photographers, ocean explorers, locals, to so many in the dive industry - and the wild and wacky friends you make traveling to all corners of the world.
Matt Weiss has been my right hand in this process and I could not have done it without him. Matt has been a driving force behind the site for a few years now. He has been working closely with our business partners and sponsors, photographers in the community, and has become a world class trip leader. I really can't rave enough about how proud I am of Matt. There is nobody more able or deserving of taking over the reins of DPG. I look forward to being a part of the continued evolution of this great resource and community that we should all be proud to be a part of. "
