Kraken Sports Releases KR-S80 Hybrid Strobe/Video Light
By DPG Editorial Staff, September 9, 2024 @ 08:00 PM (EST)

Kraken Sports will soon be shipping its newest strobe, the KR-S80. As the name suggests, the strobe delivers 80Ws of power, placing it in the midrange category, with half the power of the company’s current flagship flash, the KR-S160. Like its bigger sibling, the KR-S80 boasts aluminum construction and a circular flash tube, promising a pleasing, even light distribution. As is increasingly fashionable, the strobe features a handy 3,000-lumen COB LED, allowing the unit to double as a video light for capturing incidental footage during photo dives.

Another standout feature is compatibility with Kraken’s RC02 remote control, which is connected via fiber-optics and allows you to control the strobe’s various functions from one convenient spot on your rig. The KR-S80 is powered by two 21700 batteries. Unlike the KR-S160, which supports both fiber-optic and electronic sync, the KR-S80 must be triggered fiber-optically.

The Kraken KR-S80 strobe will be available later in September from retailers such as Backscatter, priced at $600.
