JPEGmini Brings Its File Size Reduction Technology to Capture One

JPEGmini has announced a new plug-in that makes its JPEG image compression tech available inside Phase One’s Capture One Pro 12. When exporting images from Capture One, you can now opt to have JPEGmini automatically create JPEGs of the smallest possible file size—without sacrificing quality.

According to JPEGmini: “The resulting benefits will be faster uploading times, better UX and faster loading websites, thus improving Google search rank and customer satisfaction.”

Using full-size JPEGs captured with a Canon EOS R, DPReview tested the new plug-in and managed to shrink 30MB files down to 7–8MB—apparently without a perceptible loss of quality. That’s a roughly 75% drop in file size when exporting from Capture One.

If you want the plug-in for Capture One 12, you have to purchase the $89 JPEGmini Pro Suite, which includes the standalone app, a Lightroom plug-in, and a Photoshop extension. A free trial version allows you to test it out before you take the plunge.
