The latest edition of Underwater Photography magazine—Issue 147—is now available as a free download.
The issue starts with a useful roundup of the latest industry news and new imaging equipment. New gear highlights include Nauticam’s latest housing for Nikon ZR cinema camera, Sea&Sea’s new YS-D130R strobe, Nauticam’s housing for OM System OM-5 Mark II, Isotta’s universal housing for smartphones, Nauticam’s Atomos Shinobi II monitor housing, and the new Kraken Sports Abyss 10000 video light. There’s also a feature on the Underwater Photographer Recognition Program created by Ocean Geographic and The Underwater Club—whose deadline for applications has just been extended till November 30th.
Among the main features in the issue: a reproduction of Backscatter’s comprehensive article on the best smartphone housings, a review of the Nauticam MFO-3 by Rob Aarsen, an in-depth look at the UW Technics’ TTL converters by Phil Rudin, and Peter Rowlands’ interesting interview with Behind the Mask main man Florian Fischer. And if you’re wondering about that beautiful cover shot, that’s from the new book by Nigel Motyer, “Beneath Irish Seas: The Hidden Wonders of Ireland’s Amazing Marine Life.” In a fascinating feature, Nigel discusses the long journey to publishing a book on his underwater photography. He says: “I think I’m becoming a better photographer, and it only took 40 years!”
