In the classic “Will they, or won’t they?” situation, there are some classics. Ross and Rachel (Friends). Lorelai and Luke (Gilmore Girls). And then there’s Instagram and re-sharing.
Instagram is reportedly testing out a re-share function that would allow users to easily share the post of others on their own page (with credit, of course). The Verge corroborated their report of this new feature with screenshots and two anonymous sources.
Now the “Won’t they” side of things: Instagram heavily rebuked the report in a statement. “After this story was published, the company said it was not building or testing a re-sharing feature,” reads The Verge article.
So, who can we believe? It seems likely that this feature is coming, and that Instagram actually wants to keep the secret. Perhaps we will see the re-share option offered to business pages first—as was the strategy for past features before being rolled out to the public.
