Increase in New Zealand Diving Deaths Poses Questions
Questions and concerns are swirling around the New Zealand diving community as the number of SCUBA deaths reaches 8 since Christmas 2015.
More than 100 friends and families of the victims met near Wellington, New Zealand this past week to figure out what is going wrong. The meeting was organized by Dive HQ dive shop’s manager Clair Murphy with a clear message to bring home: Tragedy can strike at any time.
"No matter how experienced you think you are, how much thought you may have put into the dive, it can still happen. Be prepared for that,” Murphy said at the meeting, reported by Newstalk ZB.
It is believed that 85 percent of the incidents resulted from poor buddy diving practices. Stay safe, people.
