Ikelite Unveils Two Housing Options for Sony a7C II and a7CR
By DPG Editorial Staff, November 27, 2023 @ 09:00 AM (EST)

Ikelite has announced a pair of housings designed for the a7C Mark II and a7CR, Sony’s latest compact full-frame mirrorless cameras. The first is a “200DL” series housing based around the DL port system, which is designed with a large diameter to accommodate the widest variety of full-frame lenses, while the second is a “200DLM/A” series housing based around the more-compact DLM port system, which is designed to be as small and light as possible.

The 200DL series housing comes with a base and left-hand quick release handle, with the option of adding a right-hand quick release handle with extension. This larger housing can accommodate Ikelite’s USB Charging & Data Transfer Bulkhead. It also comes with a vacuum valve, so users only require the addition of a vacuum pump in order to pull a vacuum. The housing features an M16 accessory port.

The 200DLM/A series housing does not come with a base or handles; a tray with dual quick release handles must be purchased separately. A USB Charging & Data Transfer Bulkhead cannot be installed. The housing features a 1/2 inch accessory port, which allows for the installation of a vacuum kit, purchased separately.

Both housings offer out-of-the-box manual electrical triggering of strobes by Ikelite, Sea&Sea, Inon, and Retra, as well as TTL exposure with Ikelite DS-series strobes after adding the optional DL2 DS Link TTL converter.

Available now from retailers such as Backscatter, the new housings for the Sony a7C II/a7CR are priced at $1,795 (200DL) and $1,345 (200DLM/A), respectively.

200DL Underwater Housing for Sony a7C II, a7CR Mirrorless Digital Cameras

The DL Port System is designed with a large diameter to accommodate the widest variety of full frame lenses. If you prefer the smallest and lightest underwater system possible, choose the 200DLM/A Underwater Housing for a7C II, a7CR Mirrorless Cameras instead.

A full featured and durable waterproof housing for Sony Alpha a7C II and a7CR full frame mirrorless digital cameras. Suitable for scuba, snorkel, surf, pool, and any application in or around the water.

The a7C II features a 33 megapixel full frame sensor while it's high resolution sister the a7CR boasts 61 megapixels. Both cameras are capable of 4K UHD video with excellent subject tracking autofocus capabilities and good battery life. The image quality combined with the size make them a joy for the traveling underwater photographer.

Full creative control and access to the full range of Sony full frame lenses underwater

No other manufacturer makes professional functionality so accessible. Our housings are designed from the ground up to provide full camera control and connection for external strobe lighting out of the box. Advanced features including TTL lighting exposure and enhanced magnifying viewfinders are available as needed.

Our DL-series lens ports are optimized to be the lightest on the market with superb image quality. The materials chosen for our housings and lens ports are chosen to maximize durability and corrosion resistance while minimizing travel weight and cost.

Controls: Controls are provided for all camera functions except Front Dial Control
Strobe Connector: Ikelite Bulkhead with Manual Hotshoe
Port Mount: DL (Dry Lock)
Accessory Port: M16 Thread

Weight: 4.6 lb
Dimensions: 9 x 7.25 x 6" (229 x 184 x 152 mm) Not including Tray with left handle
Rear O-Ring: 0132.59
Front O-Ring: 0132.45

Pre-Dive Checks

There is no greater assurance than being able to see your camera and o-ring seal through the back of the housing. Our signature open-groove design suspends the rear o-ring in a natural position that is easier to maintain and more reliable than forcing the o-ring into a channel. Once the housing is closed you can see the o-ring form a solid, waterproof seal.

We recommend adding the optional Vacuum Kit with 1/2" Valve # 47012 to pull a vacuum on the housing and check for leaks prior to entering the water.

Construction

Our specially formulated ABS-PC blend housing is highly durable yet significantly lighter than aluminum. The light color keeps your camera cooler when shooting in warm, sunny environments.

Lens Support

Ikelite lens ports are the lightest on the market, yet robust and capable of standing up to rough surf.

We support a wide variety of lenses. Most popular zoom lenses and select focus rings can be engaged using simple gearing that puts adjustment right at your fingertips. Zoom and focus gears differ depending on which lens you are using.

Lens ports and zoom gears sold separately. Refer to the appropriate port chart for compatibility information.

Wi-Fi Transfer

Use the camera's built-in Wi-Fi feature to download photos to another device without removing the camera from the housing. The Wi-Fi feature is only usable above water within close proximity to the connected device.

Compatibility

Unless otherwise noted, this housing does not accommodate the use of add-on grips, battery grips, eyepieces, LCD covers, or other accessories.

Differences in lens and control placement prevent other camera models from being used in or adapted to this housing. We are not aware of any other models which may be used in or adapted to this housing.
