Ikelite is now shipping its housing for the Canon EOS R8 with a fiber-optic update. The original version released in April 2023 (now no longer listed on Ikelite’s website) came with an Ikelite bulkhead with manual hotshoe, allowing Ikelite’s DS-series strobes to be hooked up via electrical sync cords, with the option of TTL automatic strobe exposure by adding the DL5 DS Link TTL Converter.

This new version is essentially the same housing but with a Fiber Optic TTL Transmitter preinstalled instead, ready for Ikelite’s latest fiber-optically triggered strobes—the compact Ecko Fiber and the higher-end RC165. Unlike the original housing, the fiber-optic version comes with everything you need minus strobes: Dual Tray with Dual Handles, Vacuum Leak Detection System, and a set of spare O-rings.

The 200DLM/D Underwater Housing for Canon EOS R8 [Fiber Optic Update] is priced at $1,695. If you’re after the version with electrical bulkhead, it’s currently still available from Backscatter.

The 200DLM Underwater Housing for Canon EOS R8 is equipped with everything you need to take your camera underwater including Fiber Optic TTL Transmitter, Dual Tray with Dual Handles, Vacuum Leak Detection System, and a set of spare O-Rings.

This is a full featured and durable waterproof housing for Canon EOS R8 mirrorless digital cameras. Suitable for scuba, snorkel, surf, pool, and any application in or around the water. Our custom ABS-PC blend is lighter than aluminum yet strong enough for almost anything you want to throw at it.

TTL Automatic Flash

An integrated fiber optic TTL transmitter communicates the camera's flash signals to compatible Ikelite fiber optic strobes for seamless flash integration and accurate exposure on every shot. Flash exposure compensation can be added or subtracted effortlessly in-camera. Use legacy Ikelite DS strobes with full fiber optic TTL functionality by adding an RC2 Fiber Optic Receiver to each strobe (not required for newer Ecko Fiber and RC-series strobes). Non-Ikelite fiber optic strobes can be used in manual exposure modes only.

Peace of Mind Included

Our housings uniquely allow you to see your camera inside, making it easier to adapt to using it inside of a housing. Use the vacuum leak detection system allows you to check the housing prior to entering the water.

Every housing is built in the USA, checked with a camera, and water pressure tested to 200 feet (60 meters) before it makes its way from us to you.

Pre-Dive Checks

There is no greater assurance than being able to see your camera and O-ring seal through the back of the housing. Our signature open-groove design suspends the rear O-ring in a natural position that is easier to maintain and more reliable than forcing the O-ring into a channel. Once the housing is closed you can see the O-ring form a solid, waterproof seal.

We recommend using a pump with gauge to pull a vacuum on the housing and check for leaks prior to entering the water.

Construction

Our specially formulated ABS-PC blend housing is highly durable yet significantly lighter than aluminum. The light color keeps your camera cooler when shooting in warm, sunny environments.

Lens Support

Ikelite lens ports are the lightest on the market, yet robust and capable of standing up to rough surf.

We support a wide variety of lenses. Most popular zoom lenses and select focus rings can be engaged using simple gearing that puts adjustment right at your fingertips. Zoom and focus gears differ depending on which lens you are using.

Wi-Fi Transfer

Use the camera's built-in Wi-Fi feature to download photos to another device without removing the camera from the housing. The Wi-Fi feature is only usable above water within close proximity to the connected device.

Compatibility

Unless otherwise noted, this housing does not accommodate the use of add-on grips, battery grips, eyepieces, LCD covers, or other accessories.

Differences in lens and control placement prevent other camera models from being used in or adapted to this housing. We are not aware of any other models which may be used in or adapted to this housing.
