Ikelite and Aquatica have announced a partnership that will be music to the ears of Aquatica users that dream about the versatility and creative possibilities offered by Ikelite’s TTL circuitry. The new collaboration means that Aquatica will be producing certain housings incorporating the proprietary TTL circuitry that has made Ikelite and its range of strobes so well regarded.
Ikelite’s TTL technology offers some useful advantages over fiber-optic slave flash units, which require your camera’s flash to fire, resulting in shutter lag and battery drain. Fiber-optic systems can suffer other problems, too, including inconsistent exposure and false triggering. Ikelite’s TTL circuitry aims to do away with such issues and give you precise exposures and full creative control—buttons on the housing allow exposure compensation adjustments or total manual control over compatible DS-type Ikelite stobes. Ingeniously, Ikelite’s TTL circuitry draws power from the strobes, in contrast to the small batteries typically used in TTL converters.
A longtime supporter of Ikelite’s strobe technology, Aquatica has offered Ikelite strobe connectors for its housings from early in the company’s history. With the integration of Ikelite’s TTL circuitry into their housings, Aquatica is adding a layer of flexibility and creative control that is certain to make fans of its housings happy.
And how’s this for the icing on the cake? Aquatica’s A7D Mk II housing for the new Canon EOS 7D Mark II—which Aquatica says we can expect early next year—will be the first housing to benefit from the groundbreaking new partnership.
