Ikelite has long distinguished itself from other companies by their commitment to electrically triggering strobes. With only a few exceptions, all of the American company’s housings were set up to work with the company’s line of electrically triggered strobes.
But that changed earlier this year with the release of their Ecko Fiber and RC165 fiber-optically triggered strobes. The lower-power, more travel-friendly Ecko Fiber features straight flash tubes and takes four rechargeable AA batteries, while the RC165—a replacement for the pro-level DS160 II—boasts a circular flash tube and runs on Ikelite’s proprietary battery packs.
Now, providing further evidence that Ikelite is going “all in” on fiber, the American company is updating certain housings—and kits—so that they are fiber ready, starting with the Canon EOS R10 and EOS R100 cropped-sensor cameras.
The 200DLM/D housing for EOS R10 and 200DLM/D housing for EOS R100 feature everything you need to take your camera underwater: You get a Dual Tray with Dual Handles, a Vacuum Leak Detection System, and a set of spare O-rings. You also get automatic flash exposure via the integrated fiber-optic TTL transmitter, which pairs perfectly with the Ecko Fiber or RC165. Flash exposure compensation can be added or subtracted in-camera.
In each case, Ikelite is offering a range of other configurations, designed to make it easier to create a complete system.
For the EOS R10, the following configurations are available:
(i) Including housing with dual handles, lens port and zoom gear:
- 200DLM/D housing for EOS R10 with 18–45mm and 10–18mm lenses ($1,795)
- 200DLM/D housing for EOS R10 with 18–150mm lens ($1,995)
(ii) Including housing with dual handles, camera, lens, lens port and zoom gear:
