Ikelite Announces Housing for the Nikon Z8
By Ian Bongso-Seldrup, June 23, 2023 @ 04:00 AM (EST)

Ikelite has unveiled its housing for the Nikon Z8, the recently released “baby Z9” packing nearly all the features of Nikon’s flagship mirrorless in a much smaller and more travel-friendly form factor. The Z8 is built around the same 45.7MP stacked CMOS sensor and EXPEED 7 image-processing engine found in the Z9, features the Z9’s 3D-tracking autofocus system, shoots RAW images continuously at 20fps, and records both 8K/60p in N-RAW (Nikon’s proprietary, compressed 12-bit RAW format) and 4K/120p from (subsampled) 8.3K capture.

Ikelite’s full-featured housing for the Z8 sports the company’s Dry Lock (DL) port system and boasts an ABS-PC body with transparent back; oversized control levers for shutter release and autofocus; and manual triggering of strobes via an Ikelite bulkhead. Of course, as with every Ikelite housing, you have the option of adding the DL1 DS Link TTL Converter for TTL automatic strobe exposure with on-the-fly switching between manual and TTL. The housing also has an M16 accessory port, which can be used to add Ikelite’s innovative USB Charging and Data Transfer Bulkhead, so you never have to take the camera out of the housing.

Ikelite’s Z8 housing is available now priced at $1,895.

200DL Underwater Housing for Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Digital Cameras

$ 1,895.00

Description

Nikon's best technology in a lightweight, full-featured housing

For the underwater photographer, the Nikon Z8 is one of the most exciting mirrorless cameras ever released. Nikon has literally taken all of the photo and video performance of their flagship Z9 camera and shrunk them down into a package that is easy to travel and dive with.

The Ikelite 200DL Underwater Housing is perfectly suited to making the most out of this powerful camera. Every element is optimized for lightweight strength, reliability, and field serviceability. The Ikelite 200DL the only housing that allows you to clearly see the camera and o-ring after assembling the system. Our products are made in the USA and backed by a team of customer service staff who dive and use the equipment.

Add an optional USB-C Charging & Data Transfer Bulkhead to keep diving all week without opening and closing your housing.

A compatible lens port is required for waterproof operation (sold separately). Choose the correct port components on the lens you will be shooting.

Pre-Dive Checks

There is no greater assurance than being able to see your camera and o-ring seal through the back of the housing. Our signature open-groove design suspends the rear o-ring in a natural position that is easier to maintain and more reliable than forcing the o-ring into a channel. Once the housing is closed you can see the o-ring form a solid, waterproof seal.

We recommend using a pump with gauge to pull a vacuum on the housing and check for leaks prior to entering the water.

Construction

Our specially formulated ABS-PC blend housing is highly durable yet significantly lighter than aluminum. The light color keeps your camera cooler when shooting in warm, sunny environments.

Lens Support

Ikelite lens ports are the lightest on the market, yet robust and capable of standing up to rough surf.

We support a wide variety of lenses. Most popular zoom lenses and select focus rings can be engaged using simple gearing that puts adjustment right at your fingertips. Zoom and focus gears differ depending on which lens you are using.

Lens ports and zoom gears sold separately. Refer to the appropriate port chart for compatibility information.

Wi-Fi Transfer

Use the camera's built-in Wi-Fi feature to download photos to another device without removing the camera from the housing. The Wi-Fi feature is only usable above water within close proximity to the connected device.

Compatibility

Unless otherwise noted, this housing does not accommodate the use of add-on grips, battery grips, eyepieces, LCD covers, or other accessories.

Differences in lens and control placement prevent other camera models from being used in or adapted to this housing. We are not aware of any other models which may be used in or adapted to this housing.
