Ikelite Announces Housing for the Canon EOS R7
By Ian Bongso-Seldrup, January 4, 2023 @ 08:00 AM (EST)

Ikelite has announced its housing for the Canon EOS R7, one of a pair of recently released RF-mount camera bodies with cropped sensors—the other being the EOS R10. The R7 features a 32.5MP APS-C sensor, shoots continuously at up to 15fps with the mechanical shutter (30fps with the e-shutter), and records 4K/30p and 4K/60p 10-bit video using the full sensor width. It even offers in-body image stabilization.

Boasting an ultra-compact form factor, Ikelite’s housing for the EOS R7 employs its Dry Lock Micro (DLM) port system (as opposed to DL), but otherwise the company’s tried-and-true features are on offer: ABS-PC body with transparent back; oversized control levers for shutter release and autofocus; and manual triggering of strobes via an Ikelite bulkhead. Of course, if you have one or two compatible Ikelite DS-series strobes, you can add the optional DL5 DS Link TTL Converter for TTL strobe exposure—with convenient switching between manual and TTL on the fly.

The housing is priced at $1,195 and is shipping now.

200DL Underwater Housing for Canon EOS R7

$ 1,195.00

Description

Incredible performance in a compact package

We are delighted by the level of performance that Canon provides in this small form factor. No other camera manufacturer comes close to the imaging quality or ergonomics of the R7 camera combined with this compact underwater housing.

Released in 2022, the Canon EOS R7 features a 33 megapixel full frame APS-C sensor, 4K video up to 60p (with crop), and in-body image stabilization up to 7 stops. The R7 incorporates Canon’s advanced AF tracking system and is capable of continuous shooting up to 30 frames per second (fps). A battery life rating of 660 shots per charge when using the camera’s rear LCD is perfectly adequate for a full day of diving.

The 200DLM underwater housing is designed for the most streamlined form factor possible and provides ergonomic access to all important camera functions at depths up to 200 feet (60 meters). The 200DLM housing is approximately half the size and weight of housings for full frame cameras like the Sony a7 IV or Canon EOS R5. A built-in Ikelite bulkhead and manual flash hotshoe allow attachment of an underwater strobe out of the box plus expandability to TTL exposure with the optional DL5 DS Link TTL Converter.

Add an optional Vacuum Kit with 1/2” valve to test your housing’s waterproof seals prior to entering the water.

Choose the correct port components on the lens you will be shooting. A compatible lens port is required for waterproof operation (sold separately)

  • Accessory Port: 1/2-20 Thread

Pre-Dive Checks

There is no greater assurance than being able to see your camera and o-ring seal through the back of the housing. Our signature open-groove design suspends the rear o-ring in a natural position that is easier to maintain and more reliable than forcing the o-ring into a channel. Once the housing is closed you can see the o-ring form a solid, waterproof seal.

We recommend adding the optional Vacuum Kit with 1/2" Valve # 47012 to pull a vacuum on the housing and check for leaks prior to entering the water.

Construction

Our specially formulated ABS-PC blend housing is highly durable yet significantly lighter than aluminum. The light color keeps your camera cooler when shooting in warm, sunny environments.

Lens Support

Ikelite lens ports are the lightest on the market, yet robust and capable of standing up to rough surf.

We support a wide variety of lenses. Most popular zoom lenses and select focus rings can be engaged using simple gearing that puts adjustment right at your fingertips. Zoom and focus gears differ depending on which lens you are using.

Lens ports and zoom gears sold separately. Refer to the appropriate port chart for compatibility information.

Wi-Fi Transfer

Use the camera's built-in Wi-Fi feature to download photos to another device without removing the camera from the housing. The Wi-Fi feature is only usable above water within close proximity to the connected device.

Compatibility

Unless otherwise noted, this housing does not accommodate the use of add-on grips, battery grips, eyepieces, LCD covers, or other accessories.

Differences in lens and control placement prevent other camera models from being used in or adapted to this housing. We are not aware of any other models which may be used in or adapted to this housing.
