As storms around the world continue to get more severe, France and China are getting ready to launch a brand new, 1,450lb satellite into orbit next year to monitor hurricanes. The new satellite will give scientists a better understanding of the ocean’s involvement in the atmosphere and provide better accuracy for predicting ocean-generated storms.
The satellite has two radars, which will monitor the strength of the wind and its direction. But most importantly it will study the direction and wavelength of ocean waves in order to help scientists predict heat waves. France and China have become strategic leaders of the Paris Climate Accord since the US dropped out earlier this year. The satellite is scheduled to be launched through China’s “Long March” program via a rocket.
