Calling all Sunshine State underwater photographers: The Florida State Underwater Photo & Video Championship is now open and looking for entries.
Sponsored by the Florida Skin Divers Association (FSDA), the competition is open to all images taken in Florida’s waters within the last calendar year (August 2015-August 2016). There are five featured categories: Macro, Wide-Angle, Compact Camera, Underwater Video, and Lionfish Removal Video.
The last category is tip of the hat to a concurrent event in St. Pete’s: The 2016 Guy Harvey Lionfish Safari. This controlled cull helps remove the invasive species from coastal Florida waters—last year’s event netted more than 800 lionfish.
The winners will take their share of $8,000 in prizes with the final results to be announced at an awards ceremony on September 11, at Guy Harvey Outpost on St. Pete Beach, Florida.
The cost for admission is $35, which covers the maximum amount of entries in all five categories. The deadline for submission is August 26th. More details can be found on the Florida State Underwater Photo & Video Championship website.
