Fisherman Catches Mahi Mahi with Stomach Full of Plastic Off of Costa Rica
Video footage captured by a fisherman after catching a Mahi Mahi off the coast of Costa Rica has caught the attention of scientists and wildlife groups. Suspecting the fish was sick, the angler was shocked to find a belly full of plastic refuse and other garbage inside his day’s catch.
Local environmentalists are using the footage as evidence of rising pollution levels threatening the fishing industry. The video was timely from a political standpoint as it was filmed just prior to UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s pledge to reduce the UK’s plastic waste dramatically by 2042.
