Scientists off the Australia coast have found the world's first ever hybrid shark. The hybrid is a mix between the local Australian black tip, and its global counterpart, the common black tip. The scientists admitted that it is surpassing that a shark hybrid has never been documented before, and speculated that global warming could be main reason for this rare event.
The Australian black tip only lives in tropical waters, but the common species is found globally and in cooler seas. Therefore, the effect of the hybrid could be range expansion.
Whatever the reason is, it's certainly an interesting find, and may knock off the Pozizzly (grizzly bear and polar bear) from its long standing position a top the list of my favorite natural hybrids (everyone has a favorite natural hybrid animal list, right?)
