Drone Footage Captures Bowhead Whales Exfoliating on Rocky Shore

For the last three years, researchers have been studying bowhead whales in the Canadian Arctic. The whales are known to roll around along the rocky shores of Cumberland Sound, Nunavut—as far back as the 19th century. While Inuit communities and whalers first made this observation, the purpose was not really known.  Now thanks to drone footage, researchers now understand why the whales come close to shore every summer. Drone footage captured the whales from above and researchers were able to see large pieces of dead skin peeling away. Apparently, the rocky shores of Cumberland Sound, Nunavut help the large mammals exfoliate!
