Top camera review site DPReview has announced that the site will be shutting down—after almost a quarter century of operation. The shock move comes as tech companies, including DPReview parent company Amazon, announce various brutal cost-cutting measures. At the beginning of the year, Amazon said they would cut 18,000 workers, and the online retailer just announced another 9,000 lay-offs.
DPReview General Manager Scott Everett wrote: “The site will remain active until April 10, and the editorial team is still working on reviews and looking forward to delivering some of our best-ever content. Everyone on our staff was a reader and fan of DPReview before working here, and we’re grateful for the communities that formed around the site.”
Over the last several years, DPReview has been synonymous with the entertaining, and often hilarious, YouTube videos presented by Chris Nichols and Jordan Drake, reviewing photography and videography aspects, respectively, of the latest cameras. Fortunately, fans of the dynamic duo (us included) won’t have to worry, because Chris and Jordan will be heading up PetaPixel’s new YouTube channel, launching in May.
On behalf of all DPGers who have enjoyed DPReview over the years, we’d like to give the DPReview team a Gold Award.
