DPG Announces Winners of August Monthly Contest
By Joseph Tepper, September 17, 2012 @ 09:00 AM (EST)

DPG is very proud to announce the winners of our August monthly contest! Last month’s contest was very special to us, as it marked the third anniversary of the DPG Monthly Contest Series.

In honor of this anniversary, the theme for August 2012 was exactly the same as it was 36 months earlier—nudibranchs. Out of the hundreds of images submitted, the winner of the contest and a brand-new Subsee magnifier curtsey of ReefNet (a $200 value) is Juan Jose Sotano Garcia.

First Place: Juan Jose Sotano Garcia

Juan Jose floored the judges with a stunning nudi/sunball image. We loved the detail and color of the nudis and the beautiful negative space of the sun reflected at the surface.

Second place went to Guido Villani for his shot of a “Godiva quatricolor” reflected under the surface. Gordon R. Tillen nabbed third with a stunning capture of a Flabillina macassarana perched on a sponge.

Second Place: Guido Villani

Third Place: Gordon R. Tillen

A special “thank you” to this month’s sponsor, ReefNet, who generously donated a Subsee adaptor ($200 value) to Juan Jose.

Thanks also to the great judging staff: Pro photogs Jeff De Guzman, Mark Fuller, Steve De Neef and Keri Wilk, along with DPG editors Joseph Tepper and Matt Weiss.
