DEMA Coverage: The People and Show Floor
By Matt J. Weiss, November 21, 2012 @ 03:39 PM (EST)
DEMA is not all about new products, it's also pretty much the only time the entire industry gets together under one roof. One of the wonderful things about being in a small industry, where everyone is passionate about what they do, is that you get to meet a lot of special, like minded people. Walking around the show floor at DEMA is almost like an industry reunion, and a fun one at that. Below - A few shots of our friends who made the trip to Vegas from all over the world.

DPG's Joe Tepper with Max Benjamin, Cheryll Miller and Captain Alan Raabe's daughter from Walindi and Febrina. We love the pristine reefs off Kimbe Bay. Joe recently came back from visiting both the resort and the boat as part of our "Best Destinations For Underwater Photography in the Indo-Pacific" series.

Our friends at Solmar V - we just booked a trip with them to see the Great White Sharks of Guadalupe. More details soon!

Paul Humman and Eric Riesch of New World Publications. If you've ever wondered what you were looking at while diving, then you haven't been reading enough New World ID Guides. We are also proud that Eric authors our Critter Corner.

Andy Sallmon of Sea & Sea showed us their always impressive line-up of gear. Andy is also a contributor to both DPG and TTL, and, above all, an overall great guy.

Luigi - the owner of Arenui. If you score a spot on his boat, which is almost always sold out well in advanced, you are rewarded with luxury.

The good people of Wakatobi Resort - a place on pretty much every underwater photographer's must visit list

The Wayne's, Hasson and Brown, of Aggressor and Dancer Fleet. If you've ever been diving on one of their boats, and pretty much everyone on the DPG team has been on a few, than you'll recognize these faces. Makes us want to go diving.

The wonderful people of Lembeh Resort and Critters@Lembeh pose for a shot with Joe. This has become DPG's home away from home as they run a top notch dive center and resort. We always look forward to dinner with them at the end of every show (especially when it's in Disney World).

Kelvin, of i-Divesite, shows off his new series of i-torch lights and the new iPhone housing - which was one of the hottest products at the show. He also took Matt Weiss (me) to one of the best Dim Sum meals in Hong Kong last year. Thanks again, Kelvin!

The team at Backscatter, our retail partner. Usually the first booth we visit - not only to see the new gear, but also to drool over whatever videos they've produced recently. Dive show regulars will recognize Andy Bausk of Olympus. Backscatter is now the official US and Carribbean distributor of Olympus. Great people coming together!
Everybody getting together is definitely an overlooked part of DEMA. We are an international community, so have one place to meet every year at the same time is nice way to make sure we all can spend some time together. See you next year, friends!
