Watch: Daytime Brain Coral Spawning in Bonaire
By Joanna Lentini, May 24, 2017 @ 01:30 PM (EST)
A recent YouTube video published by Ellen Bonaire on May 22, 2017 shows daytime brain coral spawning and frenzied fish thoroughly enjoying the egg feast. The video was captured on May 21, 2017 at 6:17pm on the island of Bonaire, Caribbean Netherlands.
Ellen Muller, the creator of the video, had this to say, "On the Caribbean islands of Bonaire and Curacao, just after the full moon in May and June, it is possible to see Grooved Brain Coral (Diploria labyrinthiformis) spawning during late afternoon, daylight hours." Ellen has been documenting the event since 2011.
The next time divers can witness this amazing phenonmenon will be on June 20th–after the full moon.
