DAN Testing Out Robotic Buddy Diver
Needing to find a humanoid buddy diver will soon be a thing of the past. DAN Europe is testing out a dive drone called CADDY – that’s Cognitive Autonomous Diving Buddy) – to help monitor safety concerns underwater.
Although still in early development, the underwater robot communicates with both an autonomous surface vehicle and the human divers to help reduce the chances of accidents.
“When you consider that half of diving accidents involve unaccompanied scuba divers, CADDY will surely revolutionize the underwater experience,” explains Professor Salih Murat Engi, the project’s principal coordinator in an article on Scuba Diving.
Having trouble imagining a robotic buddy? Don’t fret—there’s some pretty sweet footage of it in action.
