Just two weeks before its doors were due to open, the CP+ 2022 camera show in Yokohama, Japan has been canceled. And there are no prizes for guessing why. With cases of the Omicron flavor of COVID-19 rapidly rising in Japan—the seven-day average is currently above 90,000—the show’s management has been forced to pull the plug.
In their official statement, the organizers don’t just point the finger at exploding cases, but also the lack of rapid antigen test kits “hindering safe event management.” The not-unexpected announcement is another blow for the industry, which saw Photokina in Cologne, Germany, suspended indefinitely in November 2020.
Like last year, and the year before that, CP+ will be online only. Head over to the CP+ website to register.
