Carl Safina's "Song for the Blue Ocean" Lecture at Columbia University on April 2
Though long thought limitless, the sea's limits have been found. Many fish populations have been depleted and total world catches are now declining.
But there is hope.
In a talk that is part science lecture, part biography, and part book-reading from his award-winning Song for the Blue Ocean, Carl Safina will discuss the role of fishing, fish farming, and climate in our changing ocean.
From the warming ocean in Alaska to the shores of fishing villages in Zanzibar and points in between, Safina shows the implications of these changes for sea life and human communities.
Along the way, he'll recount inspiring and hopeful stories of the sea's revival and replenishment.
Founded in 2003, Blue Ocean Institute uses science, art, and literature to inspire a closer connection with the sea.
