Canon has announced its first two RF-mount camera bodies with cropped sensors: the EOS R7, which boasts a 32.5MP APS-C sensor, and the EOS R10, which features a 24MP APS-C sensor. The new cameras complement the existing full-frame line-up—the 20MP EOS R6 and the 45MP EOS R5 as well as the EOS R3, the high-end model for fast action.

The EOS R7 can shoot continuously at up to 15fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30fps with the electronic shutter. It can also record UHD 4K video at up to 30p as well as 4K/60p using the full sensor width (but with line skipping) and Full HD at 120p. You can capture 10-bit video in both C-Log 3 or HDR PQ.

Also on offer are image stabilization of up to seven stops and Dual Pixel AF, and the camera borrows the R3’s subject recogition capabilities, including tracking animals, people and vehicles. The R7’s viewfinder is a modest 2.36M-dot OLED affair, while the fully-articulating rear panel features a 3-inch 1.62M-dot touchscreen. There are dual UHS-II SD card slots, a USB-C port, a micro HDMI port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 3.5mm microphone jack. The LP-E6NH battery—the same one used by the R5 and R6—gives a (CIPA-rated) 660 shots per charge through the EVF.

The EOS R7 will retail for $1,500 body-only, but you’ll have to wait till “late 2022” before the camera hits the shelves.

Alongside the camera bodies, Canon will release new RF-S lenses – a series of RF-mount lenses that are optimized for the smaller APS-C sensor size of the new EOS R camera system. Marked as the RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM and RF-S18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM lenses, these will be the standard zoom lenses for the EOS R7 and EOS R10 cameras. The RF-S 18-45mm provides an 18-45mm focal length, but users will experience a field of view equivalent to 29-72mm lens coverage on a full-frame camera. The RF-S18-150mm lens is a longer-range standard zoom, equivalent to 29-240mm lens coverage on a full frame. While ideal for the new EOS R10 and EOS R7 APS-C sized sensor bodies, these lenses can be used for any R-series camera.

The Canon RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens with the EOS R10 will have an estimated retail price of $1,099.00³. The Canon RF-S18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM lens with the EOS R10 will have an estimated retail price of $1,379.00³.

The Canon EOS R7 camera body will be available for an estimated retail price $1,499.00³. The Canon RF-S18-150mm lens F3.5-6.3 IS STM with the EOS R7 will have an estimated retail price of $1,899.00³.

The RF-S18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM lens will be available for an estimated retail price $479.00³, while the RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens will have an estimated retail price of $299.99³. All products will be available in late 2022.
