Canon Unveils EOS R6 Mark III
By DPG Editorial Staff, November 6, 2025 @ 06:30 AM (EST)

Canon has unveiled the EOS R6 Mark III, the third incarnation of the company’s enthusiast-level full-frame mirrorless camera. While the new body looks largely the same on the outside, much has changed internally, with upgrades worthy of the three years that have passed since the announcement of the R6 Mark II. Unlike its predecessor’s 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor, the R6 III is built around a newly developed 32.5MP sensor (borrowed from the recently released EOS C50 cinema camera), paired with the company’s latest DIGIC X processor.

Despite the significant resolution bump, the speed of the new camera hasn’t changed: You can still shoot up to 40fps using the electronic shutter and up to 12fps with the mechanical shutter. Like the EOS R1 and EOS R5 II, there’s now the additional option of pre-continuous shooting, where another 20 frames are captured before you fully depress the shutter button. The R6 III also inherits the autofocus system from those cameras, promising better AF performance and subject tracking. Meanwhile, in-body image stabilization provides up to 8.5 stops of shake correction at the center and up to 7.5 stops at the periphery.

There’s plenty to crow about on the video side as well. As well as capturing oversampled 4K/60p video and featuring a 4K/120p mode, the R6 III boasts 7K/60p Canon RAW Light and 7K/30p 12-bit RAW open gate recording. With open gate recording enabled, the camera uses the whole full-frame sensor area to record video in the same 3:2 aspect ratio as still images, making it possible to reformat to 9:16, 16:9, 1:1, 4:3 or 4:5 in post-production. Not only can the R6 III output up to 7K/30p ProRes RAW video via HDMI to an external recorder, it also sports a full-size HDMI port rather than Micro HDMI port found on the R6 II.

Rounding out the spec sheet are the 3.69-M-dot EVF and 3-inch articulating touchscreen (unchanged from the R6 II), support for Canon’s new L6-E6P battery (for over 500 CIPA-rated shots), and a CFexpress Type B card slot replacing one of the SD card slots. As well as handling video recording at high frame rates, using the new CFexpress card slot results in vastly improved buffer performance—around 150 RAW shots at 40fps.

Available later in November from retailers such as Backscatter, the EOS R6 Mark III will have a body-only price of $2,800—a bearable $300 increase over the R6 II’s launch price.

Canon RF45mm F1.2 STM Lens Designed to Redefine Compact f/1.2 Prime Performance

The RF45mm F1.2 STM is a 45mm standard prime lens designed for natural perspectives close to human vision, with a wider angle than traditional 50mm options. It's lightweight (approx. 346g) and compact build makes it easy to handle for portraits, snapshots, landscapes, and more-equivalent to approx. 72mm on APS-C bodies like the EOS R7 or R50 cameras.

Key features include:

  • Wide f/1.2 aperture enabled by innovative PMo aspherical lenses and gear-type STM with magnetic detection, reducing size and weight compared to larger f/1.2 lenses
  • Rich, three-dimensional bokeh with nine aperture blades for smooth, circular blur; digital lens optimizer corrects distortions for outstanding rendering
  • Fixed rear-lens focusing system minimizes image quality shifts across distances; aperture range (f/1.2 to f/16) allows flexible depth control, faster shutters, and low-ISO shooting
  • Enhanced compactness via fixed-length barrel and minimum focusing distance, delivering value and reliability for diverse applications
