Canon has announced the second incarnation of its professional Super 35mm cinema camera, the EOS C100 Mark II. Packing Canon’s new DIGIC DV4 image processor, the Mark II boasts 1080p/60p recording (AVCHD or MP4 formats), Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Face AF.
As well as a redesigned 270-degree rotating 3.5-inch 1.23-megapixel OLED display panel, and a tiltable large-size EVF with large-size eyecup, the Mark II now features a built-in microphone, new easy-to-read red Start/Stop buttons, improved battery insertion and removal, and an increased number of assignable buttons. Wireless file transfer is thrown in for good measure.
According to Canon, image quality is greatly improved in the new camera, as the RGB output from the 8.3-megapixel CMOS sensor is separated into three individual 8-megapixel signals (rather than just 2 megapixels in the first C100), and a new debayering algorithm minimizes moire and reduces noise throughout the ISO 320–80,000 sensitivity range.
Retailing for $5499, the EOS C100 Mark II will be available in December 2014.
