Mark September 14th in your calendars, Canon fanboys and -girls! That’s when the company will be livestreaming its launch event on YouTube at 12pm CEST. (If you’re on the East Coast, that means getting up for a 6am start—ouch!)
Canon’s teaser doesn’t give much away, as you’d expect, but the disembodied RF-mount traveling at light speed seems to suggest the much-anticipated official arrival of the EOS R3. Canon announced the development of the R3 back in April—and even tantalized us with a product shot—but of course they only threw us a few scraps: its Canon-made full-frame, back illuminated, stacked CMOS sensor; its burst shooting of up to 30fps with AF/AE tracking using the electronic shutter; and its “eye control function,” which allows you to select an AF point simply by looking at it. Everything else—sensor resolution, video capabilities, etc.—is speculation at this point.
Needless to say, if you’d prefer to sleep in till 10am next Tuesday, like usual, you can always check out DPG News at your leisure with your morning coffee.
