Canon has unveiled the latest addition to its V-series filmmaking-first cameras—the EOS R6 V. The new camera is based around the same 32.5-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor found in the EOS C50 and the EOS R6 Mark III, but despite having no EVF, the R6 V has much more in common with the latter stills-focused camera than the former cinema camera.

As you’d expect, the R6 V is heavy on features appealing to videographers. The camera can shoot 7K/60p RAW Light, 7K/30p open gate (i.e., using the entire full-frame sensor), oversampled 4K/60p, and uncropped 4K/120p—much like the EOS C50 and the EOS R6 Mark III. The R6 V promises the same autofocus and tracking performance as the R6 III.

Notably, unlike the R6 III, the new camera boasts an internal cooling fan, which unlocks extended recording times. For instance, the R6 V is capable of unlimited 7K/30p open gate recording (as opposed to the half hour of the R6 III) and shooting 4K/60p video at room temperature for two hours (about four times longer than the R6 III).

Other video-centric niceties you won’t find on the R6 III: a secondary front-mounted record button, an instant livestream button, an additional tripod mount for vertical shooting, and a zoom lever that works with lenses like the new RF 20–50mm f/4 L IS USM PZ, which was launched alongside the camera. Users wishing to shoot some incidental stills will be happy with the R6 V’s ability to shoot continuously at 40fps—though the electronic shutter likely means a minor dynamic range hit.

Available in June from retailers such as Backscatter, the EOS R6 V will have a body-only price of $2,500. It will also be available in a kit with the new RF 20–50mm f/4 L IS USM PZ lens for $3,700.

Features include lever-operated zoom operations and exposure compensation, making it an ideal accessory for vlogging, livestreaming and solo shooting.
• HG-200TBR Multi-Function Tripod Grip: Features a versatile combination tripod and hand grip that is designed for both horizontal and vertical formats and supports both video and still shooting. A movie record button and zoom and exposure compensation levers provides smooth and intuitive movie shooting. Availability

The Canon EOS R6 V camera body only, kit with the RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ lens, or the Stop Motion Animation Firmware² are expected to be available in late June and July for an estimated retail price of $2,499.00, $3,699.00 and $2,599.00 respectively³. The Canon RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ lens is expected to be available in late June for an estimated retail price of $1,399.00³.

The BR-E2 Wireless Remote Control, HG-200TBR Multi-Function Tripod Grip and AD-M1 Macro Lite Adapter Set are expected to be available in late June for an estimated retail price of $69.99, $159.99, $179.99 respectively³.

The Creator Accessory Kit II, PowerShot V1 Video Creator Kit and the EOS R50 V Video Creator Kit are expected to be available in early July for an estimated retail price of $249.99, $1,279.00 and $1,199.00 and respectively³.
