Don’t freak out. Although the first four lenses announced to accompany Canon’s new RF mirrorless camera line don’t offer much potential for underwater photo use, the company has announced three EF-to-RF lens adapters that should to the trick.
The adapters vary slightly in terms of function; but essentially, they allow existing owners of Canon DSLR lenses to use them on the new EOS R full frame mirrorless camera—and other forthcoming models in the RF-mount line.
In addition to the basic adapter—the go-to for underwater purposes—there’s also a version with a textured control ring and one with a drop-in filter. The drop-in filter version is an interesting option for easily adding polarizing or ND filters without having worry about multiple sizes or step/up down rings.
The Mount Adapter EF-EOS R ($99) and Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R ($199) will be available in October in step with the EOS R camera. The Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R ($299) will be released in March 2019.
