The video-focused EOS R6 V wasn’t the only thing Canon announced today. The company also unveiled its first L-series power zoom, the RF 20–50mm f/4L IS USM PZ. Aimed specifically at video content creators (though also perfectly well suited to photography), the lens can be zoomed via the dedicated rocker switch on the R6 V, but also via Canon’s new BR-E2 wireless remote control and the Canon Camera Connect smartphone app. It’s also possible to set the zoom speed.

The RF 20–50mm f/4L features 11 optical groups and 13 elements—three of which are ultra-low dispersion (UD) and two of which are aspherical. Being an L-series lens, it boasts high-tech coatings such as Super Spectra and Air Sphere, as well as a fluorine coating on the front element. The lens features three Nano USM motors, two for driving the zoom and a third for handling focusing.

The lens is 3.9 inches (98.4mm) long, weighs 0.9 pounds (420g), and features a 67mm filter thread. Built-in image stabilization delivers up to six stops of shake correction in the center of the frame, and when working alongside your camera’s IBIS, you get eight stops of shake correction across the whole frame. The lens can focus as close as 9.5 inches (24cm).

Available in late June from retailers such as Backscatter, the RF 20–50mm f/4L IS USM PZ will have an MSRP of $1,400. The lens will also be sold in a kit with the R6 V for $3,700.

Features include lever-operated zoom operations and exposure compensation, making it an ideal accessory for vlogging, livestreaming and solo shooting.
• HG-200TBR Multi-Function Tripod Grip: Features a versatile combination tripod and hand grip that is designed for both horizontal and vertical formats and supports both video and still shooting. A movie record button and zoom and exposure compensation levers provides smooth and intuitive movie shooting. Included with the HG-200TBR Multi-Function Tripod Grip, is the BR-E2 Wireless Remote Control.

Availability

The Canon EOS R6 V camera body only, kit with the RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ lens, or the Stop Motion Animation Firmware² are expected to be available in late June and July for an estimated retail price of $2,499.00, $3,699.00 and $2,599.00 respectively³. The Canon RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ lens is expected to be available in late June for an estimated retail price of $1,399.00³.

The BR-E2 Wireless Remote Control, HG-200TBR Multi-Function Tripod Grip and AD-M1 Macro Lite Adapter Set are expected to be available in late June for an estimated retail price of $69.99, $159.99, $179.99 respectively³.

The Creator Accessory Kit II, PowerShot V1 Video Creator Kit and the EOS R50 V Video Creator Kit are expected to be available in early July for an estimated retail price of $249.99, $1,279.00 and $1,199.00 and respectively³.
