The Center for Biological Diversity in San Francisco has announced its newest attempt to staunch the effects of over fishing in the form of a boycott of all Bluefin Tuna. The boycott for the “most imperiled fish on the planet” calls to arms consumers in the United States as well as restaurant owners to stop their purchase and consumption of Bluefin Tuna in the wake of the refusal by The Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna to take immediate action to prevent further over fishing
The boycott is a tall order when taking into consideration the Bluefin’s popularity in seafood and sushi restaurants across the globe, but for a fish “on the brink of extinction,” says Catherine Kilduff, a staff attorney at the center, “it’s up to consumers and restaurants to eliminate the market demand, and that means refusing to eat, buy, or serve this species.” The full article “Boycott Launched To Save Imperiled Bluefin Tuna; Consumers, Chefs Urged to Avoid Fish” that details the announcement of the boycott was posted by the Underwater Times News Service and can be read in full here.
