August Monthly Contest Winner Update - Stolen Photo
By Lia Barrett, October 30, 2013 @ 02:02 PM (EST)
Recently it was brought to our attention that an image submission to our monthly contest was stolen and misattributed.
As we investigated this unfortunate occurrence, and learned that it was in fact true, we were saddened not only for the photographer whose work was stolen, but also for the underwater photography community in general. We are a small, passionate collective of individuals who work hard to develop such a unique craft, and so there is no room or tolerance for infringing on one another’s intellectual property.
And as hard as the staff at DPG tries to prevent this sort of thing from happening, it is impossible to know the authenticity of every image, and we rely greatly on the honesty and integrity of contributors. We take matters of copyright and intellectual property very seriously, and we hope that this will not happen again in the future. We are in the process of sorting out placements for the competition, but in the meantime, wanted to update our readers.
We apologize greatly to the wronged party, and appreciate those of you who reached out to help remedy this situation.
